The Somerset Recreation Club has operated as a 501(c)(7) non-profit organization since it was founded in 1963. The Board of Directors is recommending that SRC pursues getting reclassified by the US Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This will result in the SRC becoming a more attractive recipient for charitable donations that can fund renovations to the club by offering tax deductions to donors. The Board believes change will have only positive benefits to the club and its members, without any changes to the services and benefits offered to members today. In order to make this transition, changes are required to revised the SRC "Articles of Incorporation" filed with the Washington State Attorney General, and the SRC Bylaws. Such changes will need to be voted on and approved by current SRC members at the November 2 general membership meeting.
In order to help everyone understand these changes, the Board is making copies of the current documents and proposed changes available for review at the links below. In addition, a meeting is scheduled for Thursday October 20th from 7-9pm in the Ackerley Room of the Forest Ridge School where the SRC Treasurer (Eric Bidstrup) will provide an overview of the changes and be available to answer any questions. If anyone has questions on these changes and is unable to attend the meeting on October 20th, they can reach out in email to Eric Bidstrup at email@example.com. Our goal is to try to provide transparency, visibility, and opportunity to discuss these changes prior to the general membership meeting on November 2. The Board of Directors recommends making these changes, that will help us keep the club successful for the next 53 years and beyond!
