COVID-19

June 17th, 2020 COVID-19 SRC Update

Hello, SRC Members

We are pleased to announce that based on the Phase 1.5 guidelines approved by Governor Inslee’s office on Friday, June 5, swimming pools and tennis courts now qualify as outdoor recreation facilities. Additionally, on June 15, Midlakes made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 summer swim team season. Nevertheless, SRC is working on a plan to offer a limited club swim team and we expect to have more information on this program in the coming weeks. On the good news front, starting Thursday June 18, we are excited to offer daily appointment-only lap swim from 2pm-8pm. In addition, we are also evaluating what our tennis program could look like for the summer 2020 season and plan to have more information in the coming weeks.

In Phase 1.5, we are only permitted to offer appointment-only lane use for lap swimming and instruction. Phase 3 will fortunately allow for more direct member activities, family swimming, etc. so we will continue to look forward to that occasion when we can see more of you back with us poolside!

The current plan for SRC during Phase 1.5 club access is as follows:

  1. SRC will rent lanes to private swim instructors/coaches daily. This is necessary to meet our current operations and financial obligations.
  2. Starting 18 June 2020, SRC members will be able to reserve lanes for lap swim only daily from 2PM-8PM in 30-minute increments. Should a greater desire/need be indicated, this schedule may evolve. Please note this is for one swimmer per lane and lap swim only.  2 members from the same household may share a lane but again, for lap swim only.  “Play” is prohibited in this phase.

NOTE: In order to enjoy the full 30 minutes of lap swimming, be on time to your appointment and aware when your time is over. Your pre-schedule time is limited to the 30-minute slot (not 30 minutes when you get into the water). A late start means you will have less time in the water. When your 30-minute block is up, pop out quickly and let the next person in. You may continue swimming if no one has reserved the lane you are in after you. There are limited spots and we appreciate everyone’s attention to starting and ending on time to make this work best for everyone.

Online Lap Swim Scheduling Guidelines

  • Lap swim scheduling must be made online at our website http://srcstaging.xyz/reservelane Due to the ever changing rules/phases, SRC’s lap swim lane reservation calendar is published only 7 days out. Based on government guidelines and membership need, these are subject to change.
  • Must have appt. NO DROP IN. (appt and membership status verified at check-in)
  • SRC members can make THREE (3) 30-minute reservations at a time. Please respect this rule so others have opportunities to lap swim.
  • Up to 2 people from the same household may swim laps in 1 lane. Otherwise rules call for 1-person
  • Arrive on time (DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY) – no loitering before or after scheduled 30 min. lap swim. You are not allowed on pool deck until your appt
  • No guests permitted at lap swim. Members only.
  • Children 12 and over may lap swim without a parent present. They must arrive at scheduled appt time, leave on time & follow all Covid-19 rules and 30-min lap swim rules (if unable to follow rules we will alert parents/or require parent supervision)
  • Parent(s) may wait in car or 1 parent may sit in provided, socially-distanced chair to watch kid/s lap swim
  • Must follow Instructions when coming to your pre-scheduled lap swim appointment (see below)
  • Can’t make your appt? Please call the office to cancel so that someone else may take the spot

At this time to reserve lap swim time (daily between 2PM-8PM) you must be a paid 2020 SRC member (see updated pricing below). If you have already paid in full at pre-pandemic membership pricing, please note you will be refunded or may donate the difference to the club. Please see information below regarding options and contact somersetrecclubactg@gmail.com

Please feel free to call the office if you have questions or if you need help with booking

Swim Team Alternative – More Coming Soon

SRC is currently exploring options for a limited club-only swim team. We hope to have details to share in the coming weeks. This offering and timing will be dependent on government guidance in Phase 2 and Phase 3. We will share more as details are flushed out but our goal is to get kids regularly swimming in the pool.

Instructions when coming to your pre-scheduled lap swim appointment

We would ask that you pay special attention to the instructions regarding how to enter and exit the pool.

When you come down for your pre-scheduled lap swim please come in your suit. Bring limited amounts of items from your home. Please bring a water bottle as all water fountains can only be used to refill water bottles. We will ask you to enter at the front door and check in at the front desk. You will then proceed directly through clubhouse to the pool deck and follow the roped path. There you will find 4 social distanced chairs to place your things and clean kickboards and swim equipment for your personal use

When your swim is completed, we require that you exit via the upper East side of the pool and not through locker rooms or the clubhouse being vigilant in observing appropriate social distancing from the other swimmers, coaches, etc. NOTE: locker room dressing area and showers are closed to use, only used for emergency restroom or handwashing purposes.

Obviously, there cannot be loitering or meetings on the pool deck, club house or in the parking lot. This will be hard as we are all excited to see each other.

The staff will be doing regular cleaning of all kickboards or swimming equipment used. The pool deck will be completely sanitized at 3-hour intervals.

Do not wear a face mask while swimming. However please wear a mask for entering and exiting the facility. Also, if you are ill or experiencing any symptoms of the virus, been diagnosed with COVID-19 and have not recovered or are still within the required 14-day quarantine or if you have had contact with a person that has or is suspected to have had COVID-19 within the last 14 days, do not come to the club.

And while the governmental authorities in our area have determined to permit athletic practices and competitions to resume, notwithstanding the continuing hazards posed by the COVID-19 virus.  Somerset Recreation Club does not possess the medical expertise to determine whether it is safe to resume swimming activities in our locality or to assess the degree of risk that you may be undertaking, should you decide to do so.  Somerset Recreation Club urges you to consult publicly available information, such as that provided by the Centers for Disease Control and/or your local governmental agencies, so that you can make your own independent judgment as to the degree of risk that you will be undertaking, should you decide to engage in swimming activities.

We welcome each member to visit and read the guidelines provided on the King County website. It is these guidelines that will inform our facility Covid-19 policy provided below.

https://kingcounty.gov/depts/health/covid-19/safe-start.aspx

If we all comply with these guidelines, hopefully the facility will be allowed to fully open soon.

Can’t wait to see each of you!

Somerset Recreation Club COVID-19 Facility Plan (12 June 2020)

Somerset recreation Club has identified Michael Ketchum, President, as the liaison responsible for staying up to date on community and state recommendations and any associated changes.  All decisions regarding access to the facility will go through him for any and all determinations to be made by the board of directors.

  1. The capacity for the facility is currently identified as 120 individuals. Based on Phase 1.5 requirements, that number at any given time, may not exceed 25% of that number, or 38 individuals.
  2. Regularly review/comply as reasonably as possible with the OSHA COVID-19 return to work guidelines. https://www.osha.gov/Publications/OSHA3990.pdf
  3. Increase the sanitation level. Current health department recommendations are to maintain chlorine level at 1-1.5 ppm. For the near future, SRC will maintain this between 2-4 PPM.
  4. It is strongly recommended that parents wait in their vehicle during any child instruction. However, we have provided for 4 places on the west deck where a single adult may observe.  You allowed only to sit in that location and the chairs are not to be moved.
  5. We’ve created visible markers to indicate appropriate spacing on the pool deck, entrances, etc.
  6. The pool will have a written plan documenting how high touch surfaces will be properly disinfected, a schedule of disinfection, and who is designated to perform the disinfection. This must be available upon request from the Department of Health either remotely or during on-site inspection.
  7. All high touch surfaces should be disinfected every 15 minutes to two hours with an EPA-approved disinfectant.
    1. Swimming pool area, both office doors, handle, tables, chairs, all pool handrails
    2. Restroom and storage area, benches, door handles, flush handles, faucets, light switches, and paper towel dispensers
  8. Lifeguards, pool staff, or others tasked by the facility with enforcing COVID-19 guidance will be onsite during all operating hours.
  9. For Phase 1.5, SRC will only designate times for lap swim. Lanes are a minimum of 6 feet wide. Two swimmers from the same household may share the same lane without distancing.
  10. SRC requires that all swimmers, parents, coaches, etc. maintain at least 6 feet separation inside and outside of the pool from others not within a family or party.
  11. SRC requires face coverings when not swimming and when unable to maintain 6 feet distancing.
  12. Swimmers should review signs and symptoms of COVID-19 before heading to the pool. Swimmers are advised to not enter the pool area if they are experiencing symptoms.
  13. All staff, swimmers, and coaches are encouraged to wash hands often and cover their coughs or sneezes.
  14. All staff is required to wear a face mask at all times when working. Additional PPE (gloves, respirator, etc., when appropriate).
  15. Hand sanitizers are available for individuals using the facility.
  16. SRC has posted signage instructing employees and swimmers about maintaining 6 feet distance, handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes and to stay home if they are experiencing symptoms ofCOVID-19.
  17. FACILITY INGRESS & EGRESS
    1. All swimmers, coaches, parents, etc. will enter the pool through the front door, passing through the office, one at a time maintaining appropriate social distancing.
    2. At the front desk, all swimmers, coaches, parents, etc. will be asked to sign in, though not required.
    3. At the front desk, the Covid-19 monitor will ask a few simple questions regarding Covid-19 and provide a no-touch temperature check.
    4. All swimmers/coaches will walk directly from the office to their assigned / scheduled lane.
    5. All viewers/spectators will follow the designated path along the west deck to one of the four chairs set up for them (one per lane). It is recommended that all parents/spectators remain in your vehicle during the instruction but if you must observe, only one parent may do so as only one station is provided.
    6. To exit the pool, continue along the west deck, down along the south deck, then the upper east deck through the open gate. This is clearly marked.

All swimmers and participants must sign the Somerset Recreation Club Covid-19 Return to Swim Release and W

June 1st, 2020 COVID-19 SRC Update

As Washington reopens, many of us eagerly await the return to our aquatics activities to restore our mental health and wellness.  Washington’s Safe Start phased approach as currently defined, allows pools to open at 50% capacity in Phase 3.

Pacific Northwest Swimming and members of the aquatics community have launched a petition to encourage Governor Jay Inslee to allow all pools to open in Phase 2 with a unified restricted approach in accordance with health and safety guidelines.

Our goal as your SRC Board of Directors is to follow state guidelines to help reduce the spread of Covid-19 while allowing our amazing members to enjoy our beautiful pool and the summer ahead.  As you might imagine, we are learning new things daily and making plans to ensure SRC has precautions in place when allowed to open. We ask for everyone’s patience as we don’t have all the answers at this point and in all honesty, we won’t until SRC is allowed to open. When we do open, please expect processes and protocols to evolve and changed based on our teams’ and members’ ability to adapt and follow guidelines.

In addition, Midlakes has pushed its “go, no-go” date to June 15.  However based on current events, SRC is doubtful of a summer swim team season.

Phase 3 – What Phase 3 Means for Members:

Reduced Membership Fee:

  • We are anticipating a Phase 3 July SRC opening date and cost of membership will be 60% of regular fees.
  • If opening is moved to an August date, SRC membership fees will be 40% of regular fees.
  • If you plan to be a member regardless of opening date, once a final open date is set refunds will be issued. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to donate all or any portion of your refund to the club. Remember SRC is a 501(c)3 and donations are tax-deductible and much appreciated.
  • If you choose not to be a member this year at SRC, let us know and we will be happy to issue a full refund upon request. Again, if you would like to donate all or part of your refund, please let us know. Please email somersetrecclubactg@gmail.com for a full refund.

50% Capacity:

  • At this point outdoor pools like SRC can open in Phase 3 at less than 50% capacity. For our pool facility this means we will be allowed to have approximately 50-60 people in the facility (pool, pool decks, clubhouse) at any one time. We are currently evaluating ideas on how to best manage this process.
  • Due to restrictive state mandated capacity guidelines, during Phase 3 we will NOT allow members to bring guests.  We anticipate in Phase 4 that members will be allowed to bring guests.
  • During Phase 3 we will NOT allow kids under 14 to be at SRC without a parent to enforce social distancing requirements of their children while in the pool.
  • During Phase 3 chairs/tables on the pool deck will not be allowed to be moved from their locations to ensure facility adheres to social distancing rules.
  • During Phase 3 we expect locker/restrooms will only be open for hand-washing and restrooms (no shower/no locker rooms) but this may change based on guidance.
  • We understand that it may be frustrating to travel to the pool only to find it at maximum capacity and there to be a required wait.  Unfortunately, there is no way around this until we move into phase 4.  Please feel free to call the pool directly or check our Facebook page for regular updates on just how busy the pool is at any given time.  We are exploring multiple options including time blocks and reservations.

Extra Precautions and Measures:

While we wait to hear from the governor and state officials on specific guidelines for outdoor pools, in addition to the above changes, we wanted to let you know of the precautions we anticipate adding to help reduce the spread.

  • Instructing sick employees and members not to come to the pool. If you are sick or someone in your home is sick, please follow CDC guidelines.
  • Asking members and staff to adhere to social distancing guidelines while in the facility, pool deck and in the pool.
  • Sanitizing and disinfecting lounge chairs, chairs and tables after every member use.
  • Sanitizing and disinfecting common surfaces often.
  • Checking employees for temperature and symptoms at the start of their shift
  • Providing staff with PPE.
  • Recommending face coverings for staff and members when not in the pool.

Please note as our state guidelines change, we will review and adapt the above precautions. Questions, please ask.

Again, we remind everyone we are all in this together in our attempt to make SRC a place our community will be able to enjoy this summer and into the future.  Thank you in advance for adhering to state mandated processes.
